Caffeine Consumption

Being a boxer, my friend Umer Lakhan always mentions to drink tons of water rather than rely on soda to function during the day. For the past 3 days, I have consumed one can of Diet Coke a day, whether it is during lunch or study hours. Back in California, caffeine consumption, for me, was at an all time low - I only drank one can of soda per month.

Nevertheless, I had learned that students at the University of Chicago consume more caffeine than any other university during our tour, last week. And they are absolutely right!

I don't drink caffeine because I am tired or sleepy but rather the energy and adrenaline feels overwhelmingly good. Look around my neighborhood, all I spot is coffee shops. There is Te Amo  right below my residential hall, and right around the corner is Starbucks. Talk about a perfectly competitive market - haha!

I have been receiving 8-9 hours of sleep per day, during the weekend, so sleep isn't the issue but rather also the taste. My mom, also, always mentions not to consume soda frequently and replace the choice with water. As I am writing the blog, she has texted me an infinite number of times to not drink caffeine because it is detrimental for health, in the long run.

Heading off to play soccer!
Gradually, though, I will decline my caffeine consumption.

Even so, I give the best ideas when I am on caffeine. We had a very productive group meeting today for our Problem Sets, due tomorrow morning (worth 10% of our grade). My colleagues were super impressed with some of my ideas relating to budget constraints, and indifference curves. The whole group spent over 6 hours working on the Problem Set, only today, with breaks. The assignment, itself, took up 8 pages.

I have, also, noticed a slight drop in productiveness when I don't consume caffeine. For instance, I did not drink as much caffeine, yesterday, and almost all of my ideas were "counter-productive". It was exactly the opposite today as I consumed soda and coffee.

Some of my friends and I organized a soccer game for the evening, afterwards. We gathered 20 people from the UChicago Summer Immersion Program to play against Trott House. Though, I am not a part of Trott, I spend most of my time there, so I played with Trott. I was unable to stay the full time as I had a ton of homework and an exam coming up. We were 4 goals up in the 15th minute of the game, surprisingly. In the 20th minute, I made a run back to the dorms because I got a call from my group members.
Quick soccer game!
This class is so difficult! I should have read up to the 5th chapter before coming here as we cover so much material in such a limited time. The fact that I have not taken any sort of Economics course adds to it! Almost everyone in my class has taken Econ before, so they tend to be very competitive. Coming from a competitive and hungry nature, I won't give up until I get an A in that course, though, whether it is through caffeine or studying for over 6 hours. We will get through it!
