'Twas an Early Morn

To be completely honest, I do not remember a lot of what happened before class yesterday, as I am very tired right now, but I can guarantee you that nothing out of the ordinary happened (besides me not remembering something, obviously). The first quarter of class was composed of a thoughtful discussion of the lack of women and minorities in physics and astrophysics, and the problems with our culture that we need to eliminate to prevent such disparity in numbers. In the time remaining before lunch, Gourav introduced us to another image analysis tool known as DS9, and explained what both angular resolution and normal resolution are in the context of astrophysics. A large chunk of this time was used to explain to my boggled mind why, when talking about the triangle formed between us and distant celestial objects, we can approximate tanTheta to just Theta (don't even ask).

All good at the ER.
I ate quickly during lunch, and walked back in the same manner so I would be there to notify my professor that I would be leaving for the afternoon to get staples in my head removed. I met John outside the ER, which was just a few minutes' walk from my classroom, and we waited. And waited. And waited a little more. The only bright side of this is that I had a few interesting conversations with the Admiral and I was able to watch part of Monsters University for the first time, which turned out to be pretty good. Sadly, I got out of the ER just as my class finished. After arriving back in the dorm, I took a shower (finally able to wash my hair and it feels so good) and talked to my grandparents for a while. At this point, I was informed that there was a trip to Millennium Park leaving in just a few minutes. I hurriedly grabbed a few important items, and ran down to meet with the rest of the group before they left without me. In reality, the group didn't actually leave until nearly a half hour later.

The Cloud Gate
The bus and train rides were mostly filled by talking, and the trip in total took up about forty-five minutes. We got off the train about two blocks away from the park, and on the way we all stopped at a Shake Shack. I honestly do not see what the hype is all about, as it was no better than an In-and-Out and quite a bit more expensive. A few of us ate our meal on the steps above the creepy face-fountains, and we met up with the main group to go check out the Cloud Gate (which, henceforth, shall never be referred to as "the Bean"). All of us took a few pictures, then, instead of watching the honestly quite poor movie as we had planned, we just walked around a few different parts of the park and went to CVS to buy a few snacks. It was still a lot of fun, though, and I definitely do not regret going.

After getting back, I realized that I had not taken my computer with me when I left for the ER and it was still in the classroom. That, and the fact that I still had plenty of work to do, was why I did not blog that day. I won't bore you all with the details of what I studied, but I ended up going to bed at about 1:30 (in the morning). It was a fun evening, but I do not plan on getting that little sleep again. Thank you all for being patient with my blog!
