They Go Low, We Go Hyde

After a long week of late night work sessions, I decided to let myself sleep in this morning. I woke up around 11 AM which on a normal weekday would mean I slept through almost the entirety of the first half of class. Shortly after waking up and getting ready, I saw Maria was heading down to lunch and I decided to join her so I could spend the rest of the afternoon working on my lab report.

The lab report took up most of my afternoon not because I got a lot done but because I encountered difficulties with some of the calculations we had recorded for one of our labs. While I had converted most of our lab results from microliters to milliliters so they ranged around 100ml, I encountered one result that read 0.3 ml. This really confused me and I began to doubt how much dilution we had actually plated. As this one mistake could throw off our whole report, I spent so much time flipping through notes and lab protocols trying to find the actual amount we plated. I had not noticed just how much time had passed until I received a text from Maria who was heading down to dinner.

At dinner, I was still annoyed I had not been able to find the right calculation. Thankfully though, we were joined by Jasmin, one of my classmates, who corrected my calculation and told me it was meant to be 300 ml, not 0.3 ml. That whole experience made me realize just how important it is to note specifics in my lab notebook instead of just a summary of each step.

Actors in the show
After finishing our dinner, we headed out to our chosen RA event tonight, an original comedy show called “They Go Low, We Go Hyde.” The opening night of the show was being hosted at a place called “The Revival” right across the street from campus. As Maria and I walked there we were joined by Selina who we had made plans to attend the show together with. The comedy show was actually quite funny although some of the jokes went over our heads as they seemed to be more directed to Hyde Park residents who would relate to their grievances.

Now, I am back in the West Commons writing this blog and hoping to finish my lab report tonight so I do not have to wake up early to finish it. Goodnight!
