I open the 8 page test paper, a second after Teacher Assistant Ivan Kirov handed it out. Looking at the first question, I instantly freak out. I spent the majority of my time reviewing indifference curves with Ted, not market demand curves. While I knew and understood the definition of market demand curves intuitively, analytically it was a challenge.
I turn the page over and the next topic is related to the description of supply and demand. This question was much easier as compared to the last one. I solved it instantly but it was worth half of the value of the first question. Questions about optimization in constraints, and substitution effect was confusing but everything else seemed very intuitive. Considering that we were getting tested on over 5 chapters made memorization a large priority (more than just intuition and conceptualization).
Though the test was very challenging, the rest of the day proved to be good as we had an experiment game, where I came 5th. I gave Ted a brand new notebook that I brought from California because he ran out of notebook paper as he consumed all of it during our tutoring session yesterday.
Furthermore, we got assigned a group assignment, where we are required to write an evidence-based-economics theory and it is due next week. More work piles up as the day continues - test, reading, and now group assignments?
We concluded the class with an experiment which related to marginal utility. Apparently, in the experiment, I came 5th relative to 32 students, which felt pretty amazing. The discussion was led by Ted, once again. Ted brings good energy to the tables and explains the material very conceptually. From discussing how economic discrimination affects capitalism to how I can effectively manage my time, Ted Talks are amazing!
| Having fun while studying |
After we finished the experiment, I spent majority of the time in my room speaking with my mom about the difficulty level of the course, and dorm life. I introduced her to some of my friends through FaceTime, as well.
I decided to eat lunch early because I wanted to study more. From 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM, I have been studying the PowerPoint slides and book. As difficult as this test maybe, I want to completely ace the next one.
I will work efficiently for the rest of the week to ensure that I make the most of this opportunity that the Ivy League Connection provided and bring back knowledge to share with my peers at school.
