[MSJ] - Day 16: Lots of Food = Lots of Fun

Earlier this week our professor had checked in with us to see how we were doing with the workload and if the class was going too fast for us. The general consensus was that the class was going a little too quickly because we were having trouble reviewing the lectures at night and working on the problem sets. To make the workload more manageable, our professor did not have class today but instead offered an almost full day of office hours so that we could ask him questions about the homework, final project or any content we had covered in class. To take advantage of this great opportunity my group met this morning to go over the problems due Monday, then came up with some questions to ask the professor. This turned out to be immensely helpful and I’m really grateful and happy to have a professor who actually cares about us learning and is willing to change the plan to best accommodate what we need to best be able to learn.
Working on the problem set

This afternoon, with our newfound knowledge, my group set out to try and finish a rough draft of almost all of the homework questions. We also brainstormed some ideas for our final project and started work on a PowerPoint for our presentation on Thursday. We are almost sure that we want to examine the effects of men’s height on their opportunities in business and politics. A topic very important to my barely 5’7” self.

Earlier this week I had signed up for what seemed like a really fun outing for tonight. It was a trip to Devon Street, an Indian/Pakistani neighborhood in Northside Chicago. Despite the forecasted rain, I convinced a fair few of my friends to come with me to eat Indian food and explore a new neighborhood. The trip turned out to be amazing!

We left on a very old school bus that made us question its suspension and the quality of highways in Illinois. It took nearly an hour to get there, and by this time we were pretty hungry. We got a recommendation from Xav and his RA friends. This was going to be Tyler’s first time eating Indian food, and we wanted a good place. As we walked in the beautiful decor and stickers on the windows signaling awards told us it would be expensive, but now we were committed. We got a table for nine and then proceeded to order way too much delicious food. You could tell it was good because everyone ate until it hurt to stand, and then we proceeded to go on a fun, albeit uncomfortable, walk.
Our amazing feast
Stopped at several Indian/Pakistani grocery stores to buy different drinks. I got a rose water at one, which tasted like roses smell. It wasn’t sweet, but tasted like roses and was very refreshing. I also tried a couple basil seed drinks, which are extremely different from any soft drink that is typically western. The basil seeds in the drink soften and have a texture similar to jelly, and I guess the closest thing I can compare it to is a honey flavored boba tea except the boba are tiny and throughout the whole drink. We then walked back to the bus to head back to the dorms and unwind after an unforgettable evening.
