Building Meaningful Relationships

For the past few days, I have felt a great amount of happiness. UChicago has been one of the best experiences in my life - the relationships I made, the culture I adapted to, economics I learned, and even the food I ate. These 3 weeks have been a rollercoaster ride. The exams are the scary part and relationships/food are the thrills!

I have known most of these guys for only 2 weeks and it feels as if I have known them for years. The practical knowledge and analytical skills that I have developed throughout my experience here at UChicago will give me a head start as compared to the average high school student when in actual college. Mixing intuition with analytical intelligence is notably difficult but my progress is exponential. For the duration of 3 weeks, there is so much that I have accomplished.

While we get super crazy, we make sure we get the work done. Rijul Raghu is the analytical genius and Mingjia is the intuitive genius. We have the crazy guys with the practical intelligence: Checo, and Gulli. Our personalities have a lot in common but also differences.

I might never see these guys again, though. In a couple of days, we will go our own paths. Thinking about our separation in very disturbing, indeed.

Furthermore, I love the food at the Dining Commons, and Chicago in general. It is definitely something I will miss. From the pizza to the pasta, there is a wide variety to choose from. I have limited myself to Nepali Food as my mom cooks a great deal of it. But for my time in Chicago, I have literally tried food from almost all cultures: Peruvian, Japanese, Mexican, etc. Surprisingly, my friends and I share great similarities in food as well.

Economic hits hard!
While I was expecting Economics to be easy, it is quite the opposite. I, personally, did not realize that Economics contains a great many word problems. But I have learned to get out of my comfort zone not just by doing word problems but also exploring through a variety of learning styles (Ivan, Ted, and Professor Min all teach a different way).

It is this that gives me a head start. While a normal high school student might not want to wake up at 7 AM in the morning during summer, I love waking up at 7. I love the adrenaline that flows through my body as I go to class. Though I did not do as well as I expected to during my first test, there is a first time for everything.

I have class tomorrow and a great deal of homework due but even so I love it! My mom has told me regardless of what grade I receive in the class as long as I make progress and learn new things, she will be happy. Nothing beats a mom's happiness. :) See you in 8 hours class!
