The plan was to wake up at 8 o'clock, so as to still have time to shower and dress before breakfast ended. That did not work out so great, as I slept through my alarm, which was probably for the best. My rule of thumb is that if I sleep through an alarm, I need the sleep that doing so grants me. My sister spoiled it, however, by calling me just after I had fallen back asleep. I suppose I should mention that she is in Europe still and has no idea what time it is here, but still, it was frustrating. Sadly, my plan was foiled by my inability to get ready quickly, and I just as I was about to head down, they stopped serving. I decided to wait for the rest of my friends to wake up before I got breakfast. While I waited, I re-watched a brilliant comedy show by Bo Burnham called what. (which you should all watch, by the way).
At around eleven, two others came down, and we headed to Dollop Cafe, just outside of our building. I got a mocha and a blueberry danish, which were both delicious, and we went back upstairs to grab cameras and a few other items for the trip to the zoo. Sadly, the trip to the zoo was canceled due to the light rain and heavy wind, so we decided to just go out for a walk and lunch around campus. The rain was not that bad, and I feel like the RAs were just being lazy, but that's just my opinion. To be completely fair, there was like a 50% chance of rain. Anyway, we went out to a sushi place a few blocks away, which was alright, but not great, and then walked back towards campus. As the Oriental Museum is supposed to be amazing and it was just a short walk away, we stopped by to look at a fantastic collection of ancient artifacts from Mesopotamia. They were in beautiful condition, and along with their descriptions, gave me an insight into how the culture in that region evolved over time.
I took a nap after I got back to the dorm for about an hour, and eventually got up to go get Mexican food for dinner. The food was very authentic, and I had a delicious steak fajita. We went back and gathered in the second floor commons to hang out and work on a bit of homework. After about an hour, we decided to visit a bookstore called Powell's instead of the originally planned comedy show across the street. I really enjoyed looking around the place, as it was unlike almost every bookstore I've been in. It was mostly nonfiction, and they had a lot of oddly specific titles, like NYC in the 70's. I'm normally a fan of fantasy, but I found a few titles in the physics section that I liked, and for a surprisingly low cost too.
I'm sorry for the short blog today, but it is late and I'm trying to get a reasonable amount of sleep. Good night!
